Bad Boys 4 Set Photos Reveal First Look at Will Smith’s Return

Will Smith is beaming in some new photos from the set of Bad Boys 4, clearly happy to be back to work.

Cameras are rolling on Bad Boys 4. The action movie sequel brings back Will Smith alongside franchise co-star Martin Lawrence, and production is currently ramping up on the project in Atlanta. A pair of new set images, which you can see at TMZ, reveal our first look at Smith back in character as Detective Mike Lowrey. In both photos, Smith, with Mike’s familiar goatee, looks to be all smiles as he converses with others on the set. Clearly, Smith is feeling good to be back to work with one of his first major projects to start filming after the infamous Oscars slap that dominated the headlines last year.

While the film was shot prior to the Oscars incident, Smith’s acclaimed movie Emancipation was released this past December, a sign that the controversy leveled against the actor was starting to subside. By February, Smith announced in an Instagram video alongside Lawrence that Bad Boys 4 was officially in pre-production. In the video, the actors joked that they should have saved the third installment’s title, Bad Boys for Life, for Bad Boys 4, though they were happy to announce the project regardless.

“We shouldn’t have called it that,” Smith said. “But, this is Bad Boys 4, it’s official.”

Bad Boys 4 Brings Back Will Smith and Martin Lawrence

It was just recently revealed that Eric Dane (Grey’s Anatomy, Euphoria) had been cast to play the villain in Bad Boys 4. His casting follows reports that the sequel will feature Bad Boys for Life actors Vanessa Hudgens, Paola Nunez, and Alexander Ludwig reprising their roles. Directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are back to direct using a screenplay from Bad Boys for Life co-writer Chris Bremner.

Plot details haven’t yet been revealed for the movie. The franchise began in 1995 with the original Bad Boys, which followed detectives Mike Lowrey (Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Lawrence) looking to find $100 million worth of heroin. 2003’s Bad Boys II had Mike and Marcus investigating ecstasy sales and a dangerous drug kingpin in Miami. The 2020 threequel Bad Boys for Life has the buddy cops teaming up with a special tactical squad called AMMO to fight back against a vengeful cartel who wants them dead.

Bad Boys 4 does not yet have an official release date at this time.
