Robert Eggers clearly wasn’t finished with nightmares after Nosferatu.
Set in England in 1305, Werwulf stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson as a mute peasant trying to raise his family while hiding a horrifying curse: every full moon, he transforms into a murderous werewolf. When a hunting party arrives under orders from the king to wipe out the region’s wolves — and forces him to join them — keeping the monster inside becomes considerably more difficult.
The brutal second trailer gives us a much stronger taste of Eggers’ medieval body horror, with Willem Dafoe, Lily-Rose Depp and Ralph Ineson joining Taylor-Johnson in a story the studio describes as one of devotion, damnation and “the devil within.” Written by Eggers and The Northman collaborator Sjón, Werwulf arrives exclusively in theaters on Christmas Day, December 25, 2026.
