Star Wars is far from over, as Disney and Lucasfilm continue to expand the universe with more films and series. For now, we’re waiting for the final season of Andor and for production to begin on the second season of Ahsoka. Allegedly, Portman may return as Padmé alongside Hayden Christensen in the upcoming Ahsoka season, though it’s unclear how. We thought Lucasfilm didn’t want to bring her back before? Well, we were wrong, as another rumor suggests that Portman could have appeared in Obi-Wan Kenobi, and in fact, some scenes were filmed with her.
In the latest episode of The Hot Mic podcast, some recent Star Wars rumors were discussed. Jeff Sneider and John Rocha talked about them, and insider Sneider revealed that he knew Portman had been approached by Lucasfilm for Obi-Wan Kenobi. What’s more, the actress agreed to appear, as she was able to fit it into her schedule alongside her other ongoing project, Thor: Love and Thunder. She even participated in the filming of the Obi-Wan Kenobi miniseries, but the scenes she filmed didn’t make it into the final version, which was released in the summer of 2022. According to Sneider, this is why we shouldn’t take it for granted that Portman will appear in the second season of Ahsoka.
Of course, we should take everything from the insider with a grain of salt, especially since Portman recently stated that no one has reached out to her about it yet, but she’d be happy to return to Star Wars! There would have been room for Padmé in Obi-Wan Kenobi in some form, as the young Leia played an important role in the storyline alongside Jedi Master Ewan McGregor. During her conversations with Obi-Wan, the princess asked a lot of questions about her mother, who died shortly after giving birth to her and Luke in Revenge of the Sith. If what Sneider claims is true, it’s likely that Padmé wouldn’t have had scenes with young Leia, but perhaps the tragic former queen and senator would have appeared in a flashback during Obi-Wan’s conversation with the little princess. After all, both Anakin and Obi-Wan had flashback scenes in the miniseries. It’s even possible that the Padmé footage filmed for Obi-Wan Kenobi could be used for Ahsoka.
The second season of Ahsoka is still a ways off, as filming is expected to begin sometime in April. McGregor also mentioned last year that they are considering a continuation of Obi-Wan Kenobi behind the scenes.
