After his mind-bending thrillers, sci-fi films, and war movies, Christopher Nolan is venturing into new waters, quite literally, as he adapts one of literature's greatest classics, Homer's Odyssey. In this story, Odysseus wanders the seas trying to make his way home. To bring this tale to life, Nolan has assembled an impressive cast, including Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Elliot Page, and the recently joined Mia Goth. We already suspect that Mia Goth will play a siren, and we assumed Damon would portray Odysseus. Well, this has now been officially confirmed, as the first official image appeared on the English-language The Odyssey's official X profile, featuring Damon in Hellenic battle attire. According to the accompanying text, Damon will indeed play Odysseus. This is quite a significant role, but after Ridley Scott’s undeservedly failed costume drama The Last Duel, we can confidently say that Damon will rise to the challenge. The photo also clearly indicates that the filming of The Odyssey is just around the corner: according to Variety, it could begin in February or in the spring, with locations including the United Kingdom, Morocco, and Sicily. The planned North American release is set for July 17, 2026.
