Dean DeBlois, the director of the original animated trilogy, is helming the live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon. Scheduled for release in June 2025, the film will feature 17-year-old Mason Thames (The Black Phone) as the awkward protagonist, Hiccup. While previous on-set photos provided glimpses of Thames among the film's sets, the first official image of him in character has now been unveiled.
Speaking to Empire, DeBlois shared that the stakes in the live-action adaptation will feel higher thanks to the presence of a believable, photorealistic dragon soaring over Hiccup’s head. Joining Thames in the Viking adventure are Nico Parker, Nick Frost, Julian Dennison, Gabriel Howell, Bronwyn James, Harry Trevaldwyn, Ruth Codd, and Gerard Butler in major roles.
