Although Argylle - The Super Spy has been available on Apple TV+ for a while, it recently climbed into the streaming platform's top 10 most popular films. This comes after the movie became one of the biggest box office flops of 2024. The parody spy story, written and directed by Matthew Vaughn of Kingsman fame, featured a star-studded cast, including Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell, Henry Cavill, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O'Hara, Dua Lipa, John Cena, and Samuel L. Jackson. However, despite the big names and a $200 million budget, Argylle only managed to bring in $91 million globally.
Critics panned the film—it holds just a 33% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, audiences have rated it more favorably, with a 70% audience score. While it hasn’t fared as well on other platforms (Letterboxd - 2.3/5, IMDb - 5.6/10), its growing streaming audience could elevate it to cult status.
Currently, the most popular movie on Apple TV+ is Project Artemis, starring Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum. Like Argylle, it was another major box office flop last year.
