Smith was already considered a major figure at the turn of the millennium, especially thanks to Men in Black, which led to an offer for the role of the Matrix hero. However, he foolishly chose Wild Wild West instead, and that’s why Keanu Reeves ended up as Neo, while Smith’s choice resulted in a significant flop. Fans got excited when the actor hinted at a Matrix project earlier in January, although we already suspected, based on an unofficial source, that it would be more of a musical than a film. Smith confirmed this with an image posted on Instagram. "Mr. Anderson and Mr. Smith [Beautiful Scars] 1/30," he wrote as the caption. The "1/30" refers to January 30, and Beautiful Scars is the title of a song and music video set to debut that day. Big Sean is the "Mr. Anderson" (his real name is Sean Michael Leonard Anderson), which is also Neo’s everyday identity in The Matrix, though in this photo, Big Sean looks more like Morpheus. So, this won’t be a Matrix movie after all, but rather a music video that will likely heavily reference the classic sci-fi action film, as suggested by the official cover image Smith shared.
