Exciting details have leaked about the Godzilla x Kong sequel, hinting that the giant monsters' relationship will return to its old dynamic to some extent

Godzilla x Kong threw caution to the wind even more than the previous Monsterverse films, with the focus primarily on destruction, hollow Earth, and giant apes and lizards emerging from there. There was a reason for the two main monsters to team up, and perhaps there will be a reason to bury the hatchet in the sequel as well. However, according to a leak, Godzilla and King Kong will once again become enemies... for a while. Naturally, read on at your own risk, as while these are unofficial details, they could potentially be SPOILERS in the next paragraphs!

High on Cinema has reported on the upcoming Godzilla and Kong film. The site has compiled leaks and rumors circulating on the internet about the Godzilla x Kong sequel, which has been in development for some time. According to the writer from High on Cinema, the information comes from reliable sources: those who have previously shared accurate story details regarding Godzilla x Kong. The sequel will reportedly still focus on the destruction, as that’s what we expect from a Monsterverse film, but it will have a much darker and more dramatic tone. The world leaders decide to dismantle the organization Monarch, which is responsible for observing and containing the monsters. The politicians instead take matters into their own hands, and more than that, they plan to permanently close off the world inside the Earth from the surface. Because of this, Godzilla will once again face humanity.

According to the leaks, Godzilla will once again become the main antagonist, enraged by the actions of the world’s leaders, who upset the balance and intervene in nature’s order, leading to war. This will be further complicated by the appearance of Shimo, the secondary antagonist in Godzilla x Kong, who is briefly seen on the scene but is defeated with weapons developed for use against the Titans. The arsenal of weapons will include artificially resurrected, practically mechanical monsters, who might even be used against Kong if necessary.

Kong will be portrayed as a dramatic hero who doesn’t want to accept humanity’s aggression, but also doesn’t like Godzilla getting involved in the war. He understands the other giant monster, but doesn’t want to turn against humanity. Eventually, he too will confront the military in a major city, and this battle is expected to be one of the highlights of the film. Another key scene will likely be when Godzilla is attacked by the Mecha-Titans at the Colosseum. Moreover, Mothra will return to clash with the main monsters, but allegedly, she will do so for the sake of humanity, as the guardians need to be convinced that they are still worth having in that role.

High on Cinema even revealed details about the conclusion of the Godzilla x Kong sequel, but those are extremely spoiler-heavy, so we’ll refrain from sharing them here. The currently untitled film is scheduled to start filming in April, with a planned theatrical release on March 26, 2027, if all goes well. The screenplay will be written by David Callaham (Godzilla, 2014), and the director will be Grant Sputore (I Am Mother). The cast members announced so far include Kaitlyn Dever, Jack O’Connell, Delroy Lindo, Dan Stevens, and Matthew Modine.
