The second season of The Night Agent will arrive on Netflix in a few days, and once again, viewers can expect a lot of action. While watching the series, they can be sure that Gabriel Basso, portraying FBI agent Peter Sutherland, is seen in every scene, not a stunt double. The actor explained that he doesn’t perform the more dangerous stunts to show off or be impressive; everything is for the audience.
"I think it can be misunderstood as me doing it to show that I can, but that’s not the point. For me, it’s about getting the audience immersed in the show," said Basso, who doesn’t want viewers to notice that it’s not him in the more intense action scenes. "I think that would be a lie. I enjoy acting, I don’t like lying. There’s a difference. And for the audience’s engagement and the sake of believability, I think it’s important that it really is Peter taking the hits. If that means being thrown against a wall, so be it. It’s not the end of the world," Basso added.
For the release of the second season's big trailer, Basso even delivered a skydiving stunt during a Christmas football game, truly following in Tom Cruise’s footsteps. The action thriller is based on Matthew Quirk's political conspiracy novel of the same name, with Shawn Ryan, the creator of shows like The Shield and S.W.A.T., as the showrunner. The first season was a huge success on Netflix, and the streaming giant has already greenlit a third season, so Basso will be able to perform stunts as Peter Sutherland for a while longer. The premiere event for the second season was canceled due to the Los Angeles wildfire, but fortunately, it won’t affect the debut of the new season on the platform on January 23.
