There’s been some cause for concern around Mission: Impossible 8, as its budget reportedly ballooned, and production was halted for a while due to a submarine-related issue. Filming has already stretched on for over two years with periodic delays, and considering the original plan was to shoot this installment together with the previous film, production actually started around four years ago.
Simon Pegg recently shed light on the progress. Pegg, now the main source of news on the franchise’s current status (especially after writer-director Christopher McQuarrie left social media), recently took a walk outdoors, pulled out his phone, and gave fans an update on the eighth film’s progress:
“Four years ago, I was in Norway where we were shooting Dead Reckoning, although I didn’t actually film due to the weather not cooperating for what we wanted to do. But that was when filming for Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning started, and it’s wild to think so much time has passed.
We’re now in the post-production phase on the eighth installment, and it’s all super exciting. I’m constantly messaging McQuarrie, asking how things are going, how it all looks. And he has this amazing balance of being tight-lipped and totally passionate, which I just love. The whole thing is really thrilling, you know, watching it all come together.”
Mission: Impossible 8 is still scheduled to premiere in the U.S. on May 23, 2025.
