Here are the 2025 Oscar Nominations! The Brutalist and Wicked Could Sweep, but a European Musical Leads in Nominations

It’s that time again for the Academy to announce which films from 2024 are in the running for Best Picture and who might be taking home the golden statues. Based on the Golden Globe nominations, we already have some guesses, and it’s almost certain that both Emilia Pérez and The Brutalist will receive plenty of nominations, if not awards. We believe these films are the most talked-about of the award season and should make a strong impact. Since the nominations are being announced continuously, make sure to refresh our article as we update it, adding film titles, actor names, and industry professionals to the categories below!

Indeed, the Academy didn’t surprise too many people. Emilia Pérez dominated when it came to nominations, earning 13 in total. As we predicted, The Brutalist is expected to rack up several awards, and, after being snubbed at the Golden Globes, Wicked seems poised to make a big impact: both films received 10 nominations. Sean Baker’s Anora also rightly garnered 6 nominations, even though it wasn’t deemed worthy of a Golden Globe (though it did receive a nomination there). It’s not too surprising that Timothée Chalamet's biopic, A Complete Unknown, earned 8 nominations, as did Conclave, the controversial papal thriller. One major snub, however, is Denis Villeneuve’s exclusion from the Best Director category for Dune: Part Two. Although the sci-fi film received 6 nominations in total, Villeneuve missed out on a nod for Best Director. Not so for Coralie Fargeat, who is not only competing for Best Film with The Substance, but also for Best Director — and yes, Demi Moore, the star of this body horror, is officially an Oscar contender.

The 2025 Oscars ceremony will take place on March 2.
