Alongside The Lord of the Rings and Star Wars, Harry Potter has become one of the largest fantasy franchises, and Warner Bros. is now reimagining it in the form of an HBO series, with J.K. Rowling herself involved in its development. Set to premiere around 2026, the series still has many roles uncast, but a potential lead has surfaced. According to Variety, Oscar-winning actor Mark Rylance (Bridge of Spies) is a top contender for the role of Albus Dumbledore, previously portrayed by Richard Harris and then Michael Gambon in the original films.
Although no formal talks have begun between Rylance and Warner Bros. Television, the studio has reportedly reached out to gauge his interest and availability for the role. When asked for comment, HBO responded that they aren’t confirming any rumors related to the series and will clarify casting details once decisions are finalized. Casting for the series has been underway for some time, and Warner Bros. reportedly has ambitious plans for the entire franchise.
