Release order or chronological order: which is right for Bond?
James Bond has no separate chronological order. People often search for one, but Amazon's own UK guide simply lists the 25 films in release order and calls that chronological. With no agreed story timeline, release order is the one to follow.
The exception is Daniel Craig's run. Casino Royale (2006) is Bond's maiden mission as a 00 agent, and the four films after it build on it, carrying threads such as Vesper Lynd, Madeleine and Felix Leiter forward. Watch those five in sequence.
The films also ignore the book order. Ian Fleming's first Bond novel was Casino Royale, published in 1953. The Dr. No novel followed in 1958. Eon started with Dr. No, so the first book waited until 2006 for its Eon film.
Two Bond films sit outside the list: Never Say Never Again (1983), with Sean Connery, and the 1967 Casino Royale. Neither appears in Amazon's list of the 25 official films, which is why neither is in the table above.
James Bond actors in order: the six eras
Six actors have played Bond in the 25 Eon films since 1962, and the BBFC certificates shift as the eras change.
- Sean Connery (1962–1967, 1971). Six films from Dr. No to Diamonds Are Forever, all rated PG. His era does not end with Lazenby, as he returns for the 1971 film.
- George Lazenby (1969). One film, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, with Diana Rigg and Telly Savalas. It is rated PG.
- Roger Moore (1973–1985). Seven films, from Live and Let Die to A View to a Kill, and every one is a PG.
- Timothy Dalton (1987, 1989). The Living Daylights is a PG, but Licence to Kill is the first Bond film rated 15.
- Pierce Brosnan (1995–2002). GoldenEye is a 15, Tomorrow Never Dies and The World Is Not Enough are 12s, and Die Another Day is the first 12A.
- Daniel Craig (2006–2021). Five films, all 12A, ending with No Time to Die, the longest Bond film at 163 minutes.
Where should you start watching James Bond?
Where you start with James Bond depends on what you want from it. Dr. No (1962) is where the series begins, so it suits anyone planning to watch all 25 in order. It is a PG, like every film up to The Living Daylights.
Casino Royale (2006) is the other natural entry point. It shows Bond on his maiden mission as a 00 agent, so you need no earlier films to follow it. It opens Daniel Craig's five 12A films.
Avoid starting with No Time to Die, even though it is the most recent. Its story leans on Madeleine from Spectre and on Felix Leiter from Casino Royale. It plays best at the end of the Craig run.
Watching with younger family members? Check the certificate first, because Licence to Kill and GoldenEye are both rated 15.
How to watch the James Bond films in the UK
These steps use our UK streaming data for the James Bond films, checked on 20 October 2026.
- Start on Prime Video. At the time of writing, our data lists all 25 films as streaming on Amazon Prime Video in the UK.
- Check what your plan includes. Amazon's own guide says the Bond Collection is offered through a separate MGM+ subscription, so a standard Prime membership may not cover every film. Check each film page before you settle in.
- Use ITVX for four films. The Living Daylights, Licence to Kill, GoldenEye and Tomorrow Never Dies are also listed on ITVX and ITVX Premium.
- Rent or buy single films. Apple TV Store and Sky Store carry all 25 in our data. Most are also on Amazon Video, Rakuten TV and YouTube.
- Know the gaps. Live and Let Die is not on Rakuten TV or Amazon Video to rent or buy, and Moonraker is missing from YouTube.
What do we know about the next James Bond film?
The next James Bond film has no release date and no announced lead actor. Amazon MGM Studios formed a joint venture with Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli for the Bond rights. Amazon says the deal closed on 24 March 2025.
Since then, Amazon MGM has named Denis Villeneuve as director, with Amy Pascal and David Heyman producing. Steven Knight is writing the script, and Variety reports that he has finished a first draft.
The casting question is still open. Courtenay Valenti, head of film at Amazon MGM, told Variety that no new Bond has been announced. She said the studio has time and is approaching it carefully. According to reports cited by the Motion Picture Association, filming may begin in 2027. That is not a studio announcement, and no release year has been confirmed.
