Shawn Levy, the director of many Stranger Things episodes, recently led Deadpool’s entrance into the MCU, including his long-awaited crossover with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. As the only Marvel film released this year, Deadpool & Wolverine made a huge splash at the box office this summer and has become the biggest live-action hit of the year so far. Ryan Reynolds is already working on his next project with Levy and Jackman.
Known for his improvisational talents, Reynolds, who also earned a writing credit on Deadpool & Wolverine, shared on the Variety podcast that he’s spending these months developing a new idea for the trio. However, this project won’t be another Deadpool film. “I’m spending the year writing. I’m working on a film for myself, Hugh, and Shawn, but it’s not Marvel,” said the Canadian actor.
Before Deadpool & Wolverine, Reynolds worked with Levy on two films: 2021’s Free Guy, which was packed with MCU references, and the time-travel film The Adam Project, made for Netflix. Jackman also has experience working with Levy—he starred in the director’s 2011 action sci-fi Real Steel and made a funny cameo in Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb in 2014.
As for the bond between Jackman and Reynolds, it hardly needs explanation; the two actors have been close friends for years, constantly roasting each other in public. Reynolds hasn’t revealed any specific details about the new mystery project, nor whether a studio is attached to it, but after the success of Deadpool & Wolverine, it’s safe to say that any Hollywood studio would jump at the chance to greenlight a project with this trio on board.
