Star Wars has released the official gameplay trailer for Star Wars Zero Company, the upcoming single-player turn-based tactics game from Bit Reactor, developed in collaboration with Electronic Arts and Lucasfilm Games.
Set during the twilight of the Clone Wars, the game puts players in command of an unconventional squad operating far away from the famous front lines. This is not the Clone Wars as seen through Jedi councils and huge battlefield speeches. Zero Company focuses on the “war beneath the war” — covert missions, difficult choices and a team of professionals for hire whose existence is not widely known, but whose work could have major consequences.
The gameplay trailer highlights the game’s tactical structure, with players positioning squad members, using cover, planning attacks and making every move count. That immediately gives Zero Company a different flavour from many previous Star Wars games. Instead of lightsaber action or open-world exploration, this is about command, strategy and the pressure of sending characters into dangerous situations where one mistake can cost heavily.
The squad itself is a major part of the appeal. Reports around the gameplay reveal describe a ragtag group that includes a Clone Trooper, a Jedi Padawan, a Mandalorian from Clan Verminoth and other mercenaries, all brought together under the Zero Company banner to confront a Separatist threat. That mix gives the game room to explore the Clone Wars from several perspectives, not just the usual Jedi-versus-Sith angle.
For strategy fans, the XCOM comparison is obvious — and not accidental. Bit Reactor was founded by developers with experience on major tactics games, and the new trailer shows a Star Wars story built around squad composition, battlefield control and cinematic tactical decision-making. PC Gamer also notes elements such as character customisation, loyalty-style missions and permadeath, which could give the campaign real emotional weight if the final game leans into those systems fully.
For Star Wars fans, this game looks especially interesting because it explores a familiar era from a less familiar angle. The Clone Wars have always been huge, messy and morally complicated, but Zero Company seems ready to focus on the smaller teams doing dangerous work in the shadows while the galaxy burns around them.
Star Wars Zero Company launches on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on August 27, 2026.
