A new final trailer for Supergirl has arrived, bringing Milly Alcock’s Kara Zor-El back into the spotlight for one of DC’s biggest theatrical releases of 2026.
Unlike Superman’s more hopeful, Earth-bound mythology, this version of Kara looks rougher, stranger and far more cosmic. Supergirl sends her beyond the familiar superhero origin formula and into a galaxy-spanning story shaped by grief, revenge and survival. It is a smart direction for the character, especially because Kara’s history has always carried a different emotional weight from her cousin’s.
The film is inspired by Tom King and Bilquis Evely’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, one of the most acclaimed modern takes on the character. That story follows Kara as she becomes involved in a young alien girl’s quest for vengeance, turning what could have been a simple superhero adventure into something more wounded, personal and mythic.
Milly Alcock leads the film as Kara Zor-El, while Eve Ridley plays Ruthye Marye Knoll, the young girl whose search for justice pulls Supergirl into a dangerous cosmic mission. Matthias Schoenaerts appears as Krem of the Yellow Hills, with Jason Momoa joining the new DC Universe as Lobo. Krypto, Supergirl’s super-powered dog, also plays a major role — and frankly, any trailer that gives the dog emotional stakes already knows exactly where to hit.
The final trailer leans into that mix of grit and spectacle. There is space action, alien danger, bruised emotion and a version of Supergirl who seems far less polished than the clean symbol people may expect. That contrast is what makes the movie interesting: Kara is not simply “female Superman.” She is angrier, older in grief, and shaped by a version of Kryptonian tragedy that Clark never had to live through in the same way.
Directed by Craig Gillespie from a screenplay by Ana Nogueira, Supergirl looks like a major test for the new DCU after Superman. If the final trailer is any indication, the film is aiming for something more adventurous and emotionally jagged than a standard superhero launch — a cosmic revenge story with heart, damage and one very important dog.
Supergirl opens in theaters and IMAX on June 26, 2026.
