The actress, after the dragon-filled fantasy, will try her hand at sci-fi next year

Millie Bobby Brown is all grown up, as evidenced by her recent marriage, and she's making efforts to distance herself from the Stranger Things fame and her Eleven image. Netflix is supporting her in this transition: earlier this year, she ventured into the fantasy action genre with Damsel, and next year, she'll be starring in a sci-fi film similar to The Creator, titled Electronic State. Whether it will be better than her dragon-filled adventure remains to be seen. In the meantime, the first trailer has been released, along with a new poster, both of which you can check out below.

The film is based on Swedish artist Simon Stålenhag’s sci-fi novel of the same name. Although set in a post-apocalyptic world, it doesn’t take place in a distant future but rather in an alternate version of the 1990s. In this decade, a massive war occurred between humans and robots—not just combat robots, but also those designed for promotional purposes, with friendly appearances. Humanity won, though it’s debatable if "victory" is the right word, as the U.S. has been reduced to a desolate wasteland. Some robots remain as wreckage scattered across the landscape, while the still-functioning ones have been exiled to the wilderness, and humans are now trying to live without artificial intelligence.

Brown plays a teenager named Michelle, who has no one left except her younger brother. However, her brother goes missing, and only his small robot returns, unable to explain exactly where he is. So, Michelle sets out on a journey with the robot, eventually teaming up with Chris Pratt's character, Keats, and his large robot. Along the way, they venture into the exiled robots' territory, where Michelle seeks to understand why they are rebelling.

The trailer for Electric State reveals that the film will be available on Netflix starting March 14, 2025. The sci-fi movie is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, with a screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, all veterans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In addition to the previously mentioned stars, the cast includes Ke Huy Quan, Stanley Tucci, Jason Alexander, Brian Cox, Jenny Slate, Giancarlo Esposito, Anthony Mackie, and Billy Bob Thornton.
