We've been waiting for Wallace and Gromit's next standalone adventure since 2010's A Matter of Loaf and Death, and on January 3rd, the next installment of Aardman's iconic stop-motion series will finally arrive, marking the second full-length film within the franchise. The first extended teaser has just been released, where Wallace finds himself in big trouble: he's suspected of various crimes, but it's not actually him who's guilty...
In the original titled Vengeance Most Fowl, the villainous Feathers McGraw returns, a character we last saw in Nick Park's second short film, the Oscar-winning The Wrong Trousers from 1993. The evil penguin has been behind bars ever since, but now he’s broken out and is trying to frame Wallace, who’s been lost in his inventions, for the crimes he committed. It falls to Gromit to clear his friend’s name, all while worrying about Wallace, who has invented a smart gnome named Norbot, which has started to gain self-awareness.
The returning film, like all Wallace & Gromit productions, is directed by Nick Park, this time in collaboration with Merlin Crossingham, who directed several video games (The Big Fix Up, The Grand Getaway). The script is written by Mark Burton, who also worked on the first and so far only feature-length animation, The Curse of the Were-Rabbit. Ben Whitehead voices Wallace, Reece Shearsmith voices Norbot, and Peter Kay lends his voice to Chief Inspector Mackintosh. Like Gromit, Feathers McGraw remains silent. The film will premiere on BBC One on Christmas Day, two weeks ahead of its Netflix debut.
