The John Wick franchise has been a blessing for Keanu Reeves in his later career, especially after 47 Ronin and similar projects missed the mark. Thanks to this series, Reeves remains a star even at 60, with fans eagerly awaiting his return despite the ending of Chapter 4. If all goes well, John Wick 5 will happen, but until then, we’ll have to settle for spinoffs—one of which is the upcoming Ballerina. Its major trailer just dropped (unveiled during an interactive "flamethrower" event), and you can check it out below.
Ballerina is essentially a prequel that takes place between John Wick: Chapter 3 and Chapter 4. The protagonist is the ballerina briefly played by Unity Phelan, but this time, Ana de Armas steps into the role as Eve Macarró. She joins the Ruska Roma organization to become a professional assassin, seeking revenge for her father’s murder. As a result, she’s even angrier—and perhaps more efficient—than John Wick himself.
Reeves will reprise his role as Wick, alongside familiar faces such as Ian McShane (Winston), Anjelica Huston (The Director), and the late Lance Reddick (Charon). Newcomers include Gabriel Byrne as the film’s antagonist, Norman Reedus, and Sharon Duncan-Brewster as Eve’s mentor.
Ballerina hits theaters in June. The film is directed by Len Wiseman (Underworld films) from a screenplay by John Wick veteran Shay Hatten.
