Netflix has released the official teaser for The Hawk, a new sports comedy series starring Will Ferrell as Lonnie “The Hawk” Hawkins, a once-dominant professional golfer trying to prove that his career is not over yet.
The setup is pure Ferrell territory: a larger-than-life sports personality, a career in decline, a bruised ego and one final shot at glory. Lonnie Hawkins was once the top golfer of 2004, but time, injuries and personal chaos have caught up with him. His body may be telling him to retire, but his pride clearly has other plans.
The teaser plays with the familiar rhythm of a comeback story, but filters it through the awkward, ridiculous and occasionally unhinged energy that Ferrell does so well. Rather than presenting golf as calm and elegant, The Hawk seems ready to turn the sport into a messy battleground of family tension, public embarrassment and desperate self-belief.
Molly Shannon also stars, reuniting with Ferrell after their long comedy history together, including Saturday Night Live, A Night at the Roxbury and Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. The cast also includes Jimmy Tatro, Fortune Feimster, Luke Wilson, Chris Parnell, Katelyn Tarver and David Hornsby, giving the series a strong comedy ensemble around Ferrell’s central performance.
For fans of character-driven sports comedies, The Hawk looks like a promising new series with a very specific comic target: the gap between who a washed-up athlete thinks he still is, and what everyone else can plainly see. That is usually where Ferrell’s best characters live — somewhere between delusion, sincerity and complete disaster.
The Hawk premieres on Netflix on July 16, 2026.
