The Marvel Cinematic Universe may have passed its low point: alongside the success of Deadpool and Wolverine, this year's San Diego Comic-Con excited fans. At the event, Robert Downey Jr. appeared before the audience wearing a Doctor Doom mask, and Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige confirmed that Avengers: Doomsday is the new title for Avengers 5, which will be directed by Anthony and Joe Russo (Avengers: Endgame). The Russo brothers confirmed to Collider that filming is set to begin in the spring of 2025. Specifically, Joe Russo shared this information with the outlet's reporter during last weekend’s New York Comic Con.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which lays the groundwork for Doomsday, has been in production since July and will be released next year. Avengers: Doomsday, which will prominently feature the Fantastic Four and the Thunderbolts, and reportedly also include Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda, is expected to hit theaters in May 2026.
