Netflix has released the official teaser for Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Again?, the third chapter in Perry’s long-running relationship comedy-drama franchise.
The new film brings the original couples back together years after Why Did I Get Married? and Why Did I Get Married Too?. This time, the reunion is not built around a retreat or a vacation meltdown, but a family wedding: Marcus and Angela’s daughter is getting married, and the older generation is forced to watch their own relationship history echo through their children.
That is a smart way to bring the franchise back. These characters are not simply repeating the same arguments from the earlier films. They are older now, carrying the consequences of the choices they made, the marriages they saved, the wounds they caused and the love that somehow survived all of it.
Tyler Perry returns as writer, director, producer and star, with Jill Scott, Richard T. Jones, Tasha Smith, Michael Jai White, Lamman Rucker and Sharon Leal also returning. Taraji P. Henson joins the ensemble as the mother of the groom, adding a new personality to a group that already has more than enough opinions to fuel an entire wedding weekend.
The teaser leans into the familiar Perry formula: comedy, confrontation, emotional honesty, friendship, romance and the kind of dinner-table tension where one badly timed comment can turn into a full relationship autopsy. The title question still works because it is both funny and painfully sincere. Why do people get married again? Why do they stay? Why do they try again after disappointment?
For fans of romantic comedy movies, Why Did I Get Married Again? looks like a nostalgia return with a generational twist. The original couples are still asking difficult questions about love, but now their children are stepping into the same emotional territory — and nobody seems fully ready for what that mirror might reveal.
Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Again? begins streaming on Netflix on September 9, 2026.
