Dune 2 Images Reveal 3 New Characters, Bloody Battle & More

A brand-new gallery of images from the upcoming sci-fi sequel Dune: Part Two, reveals a first look at many new and returning characters.

Dune: Part Two images have revealed the first-ever look at several new characters as well as a heap of returning cast members from the original film. Dune: Part One, which adapted the first half of the iconic 1965 sci-fi novel by Frank Herbert with Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides, originally premiered on October 22, 2021. Even though it was released in theaters and on HBO Max simultaneously, it was a success at the box office, earning over $400 million and going on to win six Oscars.

Today, Vanity Fair shared a massive gallery of new images ahead of the Dune: Part Two release date on November 3.

They show glimpses of many returning characters, especially Chalamet’s Paul and Zendaya’s Chani, a Fremen from the planet of Arrakis who he has been seeing in his dreams. In addition to the return of Stellan Skarsgård as Baron Harkonnen, Dave Bautista as Glossu Rabban, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Javier Bardem as Stilgar, and Josh Brolin as a bloodied-up Gurney Halleck, the gallery introduces Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, Léa Seydoux as Lady Margot, and Austin Butler as Feyd-Rautha.

The New Characters From Dune: Part Two Explained

Although the three new characters will be unfamiliar to moviegoers who haven’t read the novel, they all have a foundation in the Dune text. For instance, Lady Margot plays a very important role that eventually leads her to be one of the main characters in the prequel trilogy Prelude to Dune. She is a key member of the Bene Gesserit, the secretive group of powerful women that Paul’s mother Lady Jessica belongs to.

While she is a formidable presence, Austin Butler’s Feyd-Rautha is downright terrifying. He is the youngest nephew to the villainous Baron Harkonnen, a handsome and whip-smart sadist who becomes a deadly foil to Paul Atreides. However, he is at odds with his own older brother, Bautista’s Glossu Rabban, because he is more in his uncle’s favor.

Princess Irulan is another massively important character in the novel, and in fact excerpts from her writings about the events on Arrakis are used as epigraphs for each chapter of the original book. She is the daughter of the Bene Gesserit’s 81st Padishah Emperor Shaddam IV and Anirul. With such a talented cast of stars portraying these characters, Dune: Part Two is shaping up to deliver an even more propulsive experience.
