New Arnold Schwarzenegger Movie With Expendables 4 Director Is Star’s First In 4 Years

A new Arnold Schwarzenegger action movie called Breakout with the director of Expendables 4, Scott Waugh, will be the star’s first film in four years.

A new Arnold Schwarzenegger action flick called Breakout, which he’s making with The Expendables 4 director Scott Waugh, will be the actor’s first film role in over four years. Schwarzenegger was last seen on the big screen in 2019’s Terminator: Dark Fate, which was the sixth instalment in the Terminator franchise that has spanned three and a half decades and owes much of its success to the star power of Schwarzenegger.

According to Deadline, Schwarzenegger, who will also star in the upcoming Netflix series FUBAR, will be making his theatrical return as the leading man in the new action thriller which will center on stepdad Terry Reynolds, played by Schwarzenegger. The film follows Reynolds as he attempts to save his stepson Daniel after the latter is framed for a crime he didn’t commit. The film will be produced by financier and sales firm Anton, who are keen to launch the film ahead of the Cannes Film Market, which will be on from May 16 to May 24.

Everything We Know About Breakout

Anton is looking to continue to make its name in Hollywood with Breakout after producing other successful projects such as action thriller Greenland and acclaimed HBO series His Dark Materials. The film, which is being called a “big budget project,” will be executive produced by Steve Ponce. Other producers on the film include Jeff Elliott and Chad Moore from Off The Pier Productions, Oscar-nominee Cindy Cowan, and action movie veterans Carsten Lorenz and Danny Chan from Almost Never Films.

In the film, Schwarzenegger’s character must attempt an improbable jailbreak to save his stepson from a foreign prison where he’s been sentenced to 25 years. Schwarzenegger’s Reynolds must fight against time and a fiery prison warden to flee the country and get him and his stepson to safety. Though there is not currently much other information concerning further story details or casting, the premise alone sets Schwarzenegger up for another in a long line of exhilarating action roles.

The producers of Breakout have expressed their excitement in working with Waugh, who has extensive experience helming action movies such as 2012’s Act Of Valor and 2014’s Need For Speed as well as the upcoming Expendables 4. The project will begin shooting some time in 2023 in Eastern Europe from a screenplay by Richard D’Ovidio, who also co-created the Apple original series The Last Frontier and wrote the script for the 2013 Halle Berry thriller The Call.
