A Survey Reveals the Most Anticipated Movies of 2025: Surprising Which MCU Story Tops the List—and Superman's Low Placement in the Top 10

The year is coming to an end, but as the saying goes, there’s no stopping! 2025 is set to pick up right where we leave off, especially in cinemas. Next year promises some exciting films—and it could be Marvel’s strongest year in a long time, with three major MCU releases on the horizon. Meanwhile, James Gunn’s Superman will mark the big-screen debut of the new DC Universe. Surprisingly, Gunn’s movie ranks only 9th on Fandango’s list of the top 10 most anticipated films of 2025. Even more astonishing, Captain America: Brave New World, starring Anthony Mackie and Harrison Ford, secured the top spot.

Honestly, we expected fans to be most excited about Pedro Pascal’s Fantastic Four, considering it’s a pivotal MCU film featuring one of Marvel Comics’ most iconic teams. On the other hand, it’s no shocker that Tom Cruise’s potentially final Mission: Impossible installment ranks second, or that Avatar 3 made the list—though it’s interesting to see it in 6th place. And how about Ben Affleck’s The Accountant 2? What’s your take on that?

Fandango’s Top 10 Most Anticipated Movies of 2025:

  1. Captain America: Brave New World
  2. Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning
  3. Jurassic World: Rebirth
  4. Ballerina (From the World of John Wick)
  5. The Fantastic Four: First Steps
  6. Avatar: Fire and Ash (Avatar 3)
  7. Wicked Part Two (Wicked 2)
  8. The Accountant 2
  9. Superman
  10. 28 Years Later

Fandango—a major U.S. ticketing platform—surveyed over 9,000 viewers, uncovering some additional insights. For instance, 89% of respondents said they’re confident they’ll see more movies in theaters next year than in 2023 (53% plan to watch at least six). Meanwhile, 79% believe nothing beats the theater experience, and 60% are willing to spend more for premium formats like IMAX.

When it comes to 2025’s stars, audiences are most eager to see Scarlett Johansson (Jurassic World: Rebirth), Pedro Pascal, Ana de Armas (Ballerina), Brad Pitt (Formula 1), and Nicholas Hoult (Superman).

It’s also worth mentioning that Snow White made an appearance in Fandango’s genre breakdown despite being a lightning rod for online controversy—its latest trailer received overwhelming dislikes on YouTube. In the family category, other highlights include Wicked 2, the live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon, and Disney’s Lilo & Stitch live-action adaptation. Among horror films, the new take on Werewolf, The Conjuring 4, M3GAN 2.0, and The Black Phone 2 are drawing the most curiosity from respondents.
