Agnes Strikes Back in The Gilded Age Season 4

Christine Baranski’s Agnes sees a chance to reclaim her place in New York society as Bertha’s marriage, Peggy’s engagement and the van Rhijn household all enter dangerous territory.

Agnes van Rhijn may have lost control of the family money, but nobody should mistake that for surrender.

The official trailer for The Gilded Age Season 4 finds Christine Baranski’s formidable society matriarch attempting a very public comeback by hosting a dinner in honour of President Grover Cleveland. There is only one awkward detail: Ada now controls the finances, and Cynthia Nixon’s newly empowered character is no longer prepared to simply sign whatever cheque her sister puts in front of her.

Across Fifth Avenue, Bertha Russell has problems of her own. Carrie Coon’s relentlessly ambitious social climber may have conquered New York society, but her marriage to George is in serious trouble. The trailer shows Bertha attempting to pull him back home while Morgan Spector’s railroad tycoon questions whether her concern arrived a little too conveniently.

Peggy Scott is also preparing for marriage to William Kirkland, although her professional ambitions — and the expectations of her future family — threaten to complicate their engagement. Marian, meanwhile, continues carving out an increasingly independent life for herself.

Jim Gaffigan joins the enormous ensemble as President Cleveland, alongside returning stars Denée Benton, Louisa Jacobson, Audra McDonald and Phylicia Rashad.

The eight-episode fourth season premieres November 1 on HBO and HBO Max in the U.S., followed by its UK debut on November 2 on Sky Atlantic and NOW.
