Chris Evans has played plenty of heroes. This time, saving the world may involve avoiding being thrown into a volcano.
In Sacrifice, Evans stars as Mike Tyler, a struggling action star attending a celebrity-packed environmental gala when Anya Taylor-Joy’s cult leader Joan and her followers take everyone hostage. They believe an extinction-level disaster will strike within three days unless three people are sacrificed to a nearby volcano — turning a night of rich people pretending to save the planet into something considerably more dangerous.
Directed by Athena filmmaker Romain Gavras, the dark comedy also stars Salma Hayek Pinault, Vincent Cassel, John Malkovich, Sam Richardson, Ambika Mod, Yung Lean and Charli XCX. Sacrifice arrives on Netflix on October 16, 2026.
Netflix describes the film as a mix of myth, satire and dark comedy, with Gavras and co-writer Will Arbery taking aim at celebrity culture, wealth and performative activism.
