Armie Hammer’s rising career was derailed in 2021 by a sexual misconduct scandal, which led to the loss of several film roles and left the actor struggling financially—he even admitted a few months ago that he had to sell his car because he was broke. However, things appear to be turning around. The star of The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and Call Me by Your Name recently revealed that he is receiving more offers and that attitudes toward him in Hollywood have shifted.
“This is a slow process, but lately, when my name comes up in Hollywood, the general sentiment is: ‘Man, they really screwed that guy over.’ That feels great, really encouraging,” Hammer said during an appearance on Christina Pazsitzky and Tom Segura’s podcast, as reported by Variety.
Hammer, who moved back to Los Angeles last year, has launched his own podcast and recently wrapped filming on the western Frontier Crucible, directed by Travis Mills. The film also stars Thomas Jane, William H. Macy, and Myles Clohessy.
The actor is currently preparing for two new films, one of which begins shooting in Croatia this January, followed by another project in the Philippines in the spring. Hammer currently lacks a manager but mentioned that he’s in talks for a lead role in a TV series, with a studio executive reportedly giving it the green light. “My schedule is pretty packed. Turning down that first offer after these terrible four years was the best feeling I’ve ever had,” he said on the podcast.
Hammer also reflected on the bizarre allegations against him, suggesting that on some subconscious level, he wanted to be caught and have his secrets exposed. He admitted feeling disconnected from the public image of himself and his ex-wife, Elizabeth Chambers, as a “perfect couple” with a “perfect life, perfect house, and perfect kids.”
“I often feel like a f***ing alien. Not a person, more like a monster,” Hammer confessed. He explained that he is now ready to open up about his unconventional sexual preferences and childhood traumas through candid and uncomfortable conversations. This is one of the reasons he launched his podcast, titled Armie HammerTime.
“It’s really f***ing scary, but I’m diving into it because I know that usually, the things that scare me the most are what I need to grow,” said Hammer, whose scandals were covered extensively in this 2021 article.
