Netflix has released the official teaser for Below, a suspenseful new limited series starring Josh Hartnett as a fisherman whose remote coastal community becomes the target of something terrifying beneath the water.
Set in a small Newfoundland town, the six-part series follows Calvin Penney, a stubborn but deeply caring fisherman still haunted by the unexplained death of his father decades earlier. When a mysterious sea creature begins attacking the area, Calvin is forced to confront both the threat facing his home and the secrets buried within his community.
Determined to protect his son Wade and the rest of his fractured family, Calvin joins forces with visiting marine researcher Fonda Howander. Together, they attempt to understand what is moving beneath the waves before the escalating attacks destroy the town and its increasingly fragile way of life.
The teaser offers only brief glimpses of the creature, focusing instead on the fear spreading through the isolated community. Disturbing sounds beneath boats, violent movement in the water and a growing sense that something ancient has awakened create an atmosphere of slow-building maritime horror.
Josh Hartnett leads the series as Calvin, while Mackenzie Davis plays Fonda and Stranger Things star Charlie Heaton appears as Calvin’s son Wade. The cast also includes Willow Kean, Ruby Stokes, Rohan Campbell and Kaleb Horn.
Created by Jesse McKeown, Below combines supernatural suspense and local mythology with a family drama about loss, responsibility and communities struggling to survive change. Rather than presenting a straightforward battle between humans and a monster, the series appears set to explore the relationships and old wounds that begin to surface alongside the creature.
Newfoundland’s rugged coastlines, unpredictable waters and isolated settlements provide a striking setting for the story. The landscape feels both beautiful and threatening, reinforcing the idea that the residents are trapped between the traditions they are trying to preserve and an unknown force capable of destroying everything.
