Coven Academy Opens Its Doors in Chapter 1
Disney+ shares the opening chapter of Coven Academy, introducing Briar Roberts to a secret New Orleans school where magic, missing family secrets and forbidden romance are already waiting.
Magic school sounds exciting until your first lesson comes with deadly secrets attached.
Disney+ has released Chapter 1 of Coven Academy, giving viewers a proper introduction to Briar Roberts, played by Malina Weissman. The New York teenager arrives at a secret academy in New Orleans while searching for answers about her mother’s disappearance — only to discover that learning to control her own magic may be the easiest part of her new life.
The opening chapter begins establishing the world around Briar and the young witches and warlocks who will become her closest allies. Tegan and Sasha complete the central coven, while Jake and Ollie bring friendship, rivalry and the beginnings of a much messier romantic situation. Meanwhile, tension between witches and vampires hints that whatever happened to Briar’s mother may be connected to a considerably larger supernatural threat.
Created by Tim Federle, the filmmaker behind High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, Coven Academy blends coming-of-age drama with witchcraft, horror and romance against the appropriately haunted backdrop of New Orleans. Tiffani Thiessen stars as the mysterious Miss Graves, with Devon Sawa among the academy’s adult faculty.
The series is told through fast-paced chapters designed for binge viewing, with Briar’s family mystery gradually unfolding alongside the growing danger surrounding the students.
Coven Academy is streaming now on Disney+.
