According to Deadline, Chris Columbus, who wrote the original screenplays for the classic 1984 Gremlins and 1985 The Goonies, is developing new versions of these films at Warner Bros. It’s unclear whether these projects will be sequels, remakes, or reboots. Columbus made a name for himself in Hollywood in his twenties as a creator of films produced by Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment. He later found success as a director with the first two Home Alone movies, followed by works such as Mrs. Doubtfire, Bicentennial Man, and the first two Harry Potter films. These accomplishments more than make up for missteps like 2010’s Percy Jackson and Pixels. Recently, he has been active as a producer in the horror genre, assisting Robert Eggers in bringing The Witch, The Lighthouse, and Nosferatu to life.
