Captain America: New World Order has finally hit theaters. However, it hasn’t exactly created a "brave new world" in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In fact, critics have been quite harsh. It seems that the audiences aren’t too fond of it either, as the film received a B- rating on CinemaScore. This is even more surprising given that previous Captain America films received much better scores: the first Avenger got an "A-", The Winter Soldier and Civil War both earned "A"s. As pointed out by Discussing Film and box office expert Luiz Fernando, this is the lowest CinemaScore rating in MCU history. Even Eternals, The Marvels, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania received a "B". In this way, New World Order joins Venom: Let There Be Carnage and X-Men: Dark Phoenix, both of which also received a B-. CinemaScore grades films on an A–F scale (with "A+" being the best and "F-" the worst), with moviegoers themselves doing the grading. In the U.S. and Canada, they can vote after screenings, so these are direct evaluations based on first impressions. In most cases, these ratings have significant weight and contribute to word of mouth, which affects how a film performs in the long term. It’s worth noting, however, that the film's audience rating is doing better on Rotten Tomatoes, where it has a score of 3.8/5 (74%) based on over 5,000 votes. As for box office performance, only Thursday's preview data has come in from the U.S., showing $12M (compared to Ant-Man and the Wasp with $12M, and Quantumania with $17.5M). Experts predict that the North American weekend total will be around $80M.
