Inside Kate Upton and Justin Verlander’s Colorful NYC Home

Kate Upton and Justin Verlander trade safe celebrity neutrals for pink walls, a green kitchen and Old Hollywood glamour inside their personality-filled Manhattan penthouse.

Kate Upton and Justin Verlander bought an all-white New York apartment. That clearly wasn’t going to last.

The couple welcomes Architectural Digest inside their Manhattan penthouse, redesigned with interior designer John Ruggiero around one very simple idea: their family home should actually be fun. Inspired partly by the sunsets over Central Park, Upton embraced bold color throughout the apartment rather than the familiar beige-and-cream celebrity aesthetic.

The living room makes the point immediately. Pink walls, deep red furniture and collected artwork create what Verlander jokingly calls Upton’s “Shenthouse,” while a former formal dining room has been transformed into a moody Art Deco-inspired home theater — considerably more useful for how the family actually lives.

Then there’s the kitchen. Deep green cabinetry meets elaborate de Gournay wallpaper with gold details, including a tiny bird’s nest hand-painted into an awkward gap during installation. Upton calls the room the heart of the home, with the family eating most of their meals there.

Personal details keep the apartment from feeling staged. There’s commissioned art, flea-market finds, clever hidden shoe storage and custom furniture designed around the couple’s height and views across Manhattan.

Even the primary bedroom rejects the usual hotel-suite neutrality with blue walls, pink and green accents and a custom bed.

Elegant? Definitely. Serious? Not particularly — and that seems to be exactly the point.
