Sony Pictures has released the official trailer for Jumanji: Open World, reuniting Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillan for what is being presented as the final adventure in the modern Jumanji series.
Previous films transported their human players into the dangerous jungles of a supernatural video game. This time, the rules have changed: Jumanji has escaped from its console and entered the real world.
Dr. Smolder Bravestone, Ruby Roundhouse, Franklin “Mouse” Finbar and Professor Sheldon Oberon are no longer safely contained inside the game. The avatars now find themselves surrounded by ordinary towns, roads and unsuspecting civilians, while creatures and environmental hazards from Jumanji begin spreading far beyond the digital jungle.
Unfortunately, the characters appear to be trapped in a malfunctioning demo mode. Without their original players controlling them properly, their powers, personalities and actions become dangerously unpredictable.
Dwayne Johnson returns as the impossibly confident Dr. Bravestone, with Kevin Hart as zoologist Mouse Finbar, Jack Black as cartographer Professor Oberon and Karen Gillan as martial-arts specialist Ruby Roundhouse.
Alex Wolff, Morgan Turner, Ser’Darius Blain and Madison Iseman also return as Spencer, Martha, Fridge and Bethany, the friends who first discovered the game in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. Now they must find a way to restore the boundaries between Jumanji and reality before the game permanently transforms their world.
The returning ensemble also includes Danny DeVito, Awkwafina, Nick Jonas, Bebe Neuwirth, Rhys Darby and Lamorne Morris.
The trailer promises another mixture of large-scale action and body-swapping comedy, with stampeding animals, collapsing environments and the franchise’s recognisable avatars struggling to understand a world in which they are no longer protected by the game’s familiar rules.
The reversed premise also brings the story closer to the original 1995 Jumanji, in which the dangers of the mysterious board game escaped into the real world. The new film appears designed to connect the different eras of the franchise while concluding the journey that began with the 2017 revival.
Jake Kasdan returns to direct after previously making Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and Jumanji: The Next Level. He co-wrote the screenplay with Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg.
After surviving two journeys through the jungle, the players must now face their most difficult challenge: stopping Jumanji when the entire world has become its playground.
Jumanji: Open World arrives exclusively in cinemas on December 25, 2026.
