Sony Pictures and Prime Focus Studios have released the official trailer for Ramayana: Part One, offering the most extensive look yet at director Nitesh Tiwari’s spectacular new adaptation of the ancient Indian epic.
Ranbir Kapoor stars as Rama, a prince whose courage, discipline and devotion place him at the centre of an enormous battle between righteousness and evil. Sai Pallavi plays Sita, while Yash takes on the role of Ravana, the powerful ruler whose actions ignite the story’s defining conflict.
The trailer presents the film as both an intimate story of duty and sacrifice and a large-scale mythological adventure. Royal kingdoms, vast armies, supernatural forces and enormous battle sequences combine to bring the world of the Ramayana to the screen with unprecedented cinematic scale.
At the heart of the story is Rama’s determination to rescue Sita after she is taken by Ravana. His journey will test his values, his relationships and his willingness to sacrifice everything in defence of justice.
The ensemble also includes Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravie Dubey as Lakshmana. Hanuman’s loyalty and extraordinary power make him one of Rama’s most important allies, while Lakshmana accompanies his brother through the dangers of exile and war.
Nitesh Tiwari directs the two-part cinematic adaptation, with producer Namit Malhotra overseeing the project through Prime Focus Studios. Monster Mind Creations and visual-effects company DNEG are also involved in bringing its mythological landscapes, creatures and battles to life.
The film marks the first collaboration between Academy Award-winning composers Hans Zimmer and A. R. Rahman. Their combined musical approach promises to blend the scale of a global cinematic epic with the cultural and emotional identity of the original story.
Action sequences are choreographed by Terry Notary and Guy Norris, whose previous credits include the Planet of the Apes, Avengers, Mad Max and Furiosa franchises. Production designers Ravi Bansal and Ramsey Avery are responsible for constructing the film’s vision of ancient India.
Rather than treating the Ramayana purely as spectacle, the filmmakers have emphasised the story’s enduring ideas of courage, loyalty, sacrifice and the triumph of light over darkness. The trailer suggests that these themes will remain central even as the adaptation expands the story into a major international cinematic event.
Filmed specifically for IMAX, Ramayana: Part One will be released in cinemas worldwide during Diwali 2026. Sony Pictures will distribute the film internationally, while Dharma Productions will handle its release across Hindi-speaking markets in northern India.
The story will continue in Ramayana: Part Two, scheduled for release in 2027.
