Johnny Depp Transforms Into Scrooge in New Ebenezer Featurette
Johnny Depp steps into the role of Ebenezer Scrooge in a new featurette for Ti West's gothic Christmas adaptation, also starring Ian McKellen and Rupert Grint.
Johnny Depp is bringing Ebenezer Scrooge back to the big screen, and a new promotional featurette puts the actor's transformation into Charles Dickens' legendary character in the spotlight.
Directed by Ti West, best known for his work on X, Pearl and MaXXXine, Ebenezer offers a darker, gothic interpretation of the classic Christmas story while preserving its familiar themes of regret, compassion and redemption.
Depp portrays the wealthy, bitter businessman who despises Christmas and has little sympathy for those around him. His carefully ordered existence is disrupted when the ghost of his former business partner, Jacob Marley, warns him of an extraordinary supernatural journey.
Ian McKellen plays Marley, while Rupert Grint takes on the role of Bob Cratchit, Scrooge's underpaid employee. The supporting ensemble includes Andrea Riseborough as the Ghost of Christmas Past, Tramell Tillman as the Ghost of Christmas Present, Sam Claflin and Daisy Ridley.
West has described his approach as an opportunity to explore Scrooge's unpleasant personality while allowing Depp to bring unexpected humour and charm to the character.
The production also marks a significant return to major Hollywood studio filmmaking for Depp, whose performance is central to Paramount's new interpretation of Dickens' 1843 novella.
With its supernatural imagery, Victorian atmosphere and distinctive creative team, Ebenezer aims to deliver a Christmas story that is both haunting and emotionally resonant.
Ebenezer arrives in cinemas on November 13, 2026.
