Jason Statham’s Bloopers Break the Tough-Guy Image
Car chases and fight scenes are considerably less intimidating when Jason Statham starts laughing. A new compilation revisits the action star’s funniest on-set mistakes and broken takes.
Jason Statham has built an entire career around looking like absolutely nothing surprises him. Behind the scenes, apparently, things are considerably less controlled.
This blooper and gag-reel compilation collects some of the action star’s funniest filming mistakes, ruined takes and moments when maintaining the trademark Statham intensity simply becomes impossible. Watching elaborate fight scenes fall apart or a perfectly delivered threat disappear into laughter offers a very different version of the man audiences know from The Transporter, The Expendables and countless other action movies.
His work on Spy remains perhaps the clearest proof that the serious persona is part of the joke. As overconfident CIA agent Rick Ford, Statham played everything completely straight while surrounded by Melissa McCarthy, Rose Byrne and a cast encouraged to improvise. The film’s extensive gag reels show just how difficult that became once McCarthy started changing lines and pushing scenes into increasingly ridiculous territory.
It also explains why Statham works so well in comedy without fundamentally changing his screen persona. He doesn’t need to become the funny guy — the joke is often watching the world become absurd while he remains determined to act like the hardest man in the room.
Until someone breaks him.
For anyone accustomed to Statham surviving explosions, car crashes and armies of disposable villains without blinking, watching him repeatedly lose a battle against his own laughter is surprisingly satisfying.
