Directed by Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, La Bola Negra moves from the 1930s to modern-day Spain, following Carlos, Sebastián and Alberto as their seemingly separate lives become connected through love, desire, pain and inheritance. The story draws inspiration from Alberto Conejero’s play La piedra oscura and an unfinished manuscript by legendary Spanish writer Federico García Lorca.
Guitarricadelafuente, Miguel Bernardeau, Carlos González and Milo Quifes lead the ensemble alongside Penélope Cruz and Glenn Close. Already an award winner at Cannes and Toronto — where it became the first Netflix film to win the TIFF People’s Choice Award — La Bola Negra opens in select U.S. theaters on October 16 before arriving on Netflix December 2, 2026.
