Before the mask, before the machete and before Jason Voorhees became one of horror’s most recognisable killers, there was Pamela.
Peacock has released the first full trailer for Crystal Lake, the upcoming A24-produced prequel to the Friday the 13th franchise — and this time, Jason’s mother is at the centre of the story.
Linda Cardellini stars as Pam Voorhees, a single mother whose young, sickly son Jason tragically drowns in Crystal Lake.
Almost a year later, Pam still refuses to accept that her son is truly gone.
“I don’t want to heal,” she says in the trailer. “I want to find my son.”
Then people start dying.
When two strangers arrive in town asking questions about Pam’s past, a disturbing chain of events begins unfolding around Crystal Lake. Bodies appear, secrets begin surfacing and suspicion starts falling on the grieving mother who remains convinced that Jason may still be somewhere out there.
The trailer makes no attempt to hide where this story is ultimately heading.
Cardellini’s Pamela begins as a devastated mother and gradually becomes something much darker, giving Crystal Lake the opportunity to explore a character who played a crucial role in the original Friday the 13th but has spent most of the franchise overshadowed by her son.
Callum Vinson plays the young Jason Voorhees, while William Catlett stars as Levon Brooks, alongside Devin Kessler, Cameron Scoggins and Gwendolyn Sundstrom.
The series comes from creator, writer and showrunner Brad Caleb Kane, whose credits include It: Welcome to Derry, Tokyo Vice and Warrior.
And despite expanding the mythology, Crystal Lake clearly hasn’t forgotten what franchise it belongs to.
The new trailer delivers machetes, brutal deaths, blood-soaked imagery and plenty of uncomfortable trips through the woods — while keeping the psychological collapse of Pamela Voorhees at the centre of the story.
The series also winds the clock back years before the events of the original 1980 Friday the 13th, meaning audiences shouldn’t expect the hockey-mask-wearing Jason most people associate with the franchise.
At least, not yet.
Instead, Crystal Lake is asking a different question.

All eight episodes of Crystal Lake premiere October 15, 2026 on Peacock in the United States.
The series will also stream exclusively on Sky and NOW in the UK and Ireland this October.
