One of the biggest stars of our time could be the lead in Shawn Levy's Star Wars film

It will be six years this December since the release of the divisive (or, as some would say, disastrous) Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Since then, no new Star Wars film has been released, with the mythology continuing to expand on the series front. After Disney and Lucasfilm canceled a few projects and announced new ones, we will eventually get that long-awaited new Star Wars film on the big screen. Have we forgotten that Deadpool and The Wolverine director Shawn Levy is also working on a Star Wars movie? Well, it’s likely to have a strong cast, as one of the biggest stars of our time, Ryan Gosling, has joined. It’s already certain that he won't be playing Kent or KENobi.

The Hollywood Reporter reported that the star of Barbie, La La Land (and The Stuntman) has joined the cast of the currently untitled Star Wars film. The script will be handled by Jonathan Tropper (The Adam Project), and Levy has been developing the story for the third year now, so hopefully, we’ll get a well-crafted plot. Why he isn’t working with the other Ryan, after several recent collaborations, isn’t such a big question, as Reynolds doesn't currently want to do Deadpool 4 and prefers to spend more time with his family. That said, it’s not out of the question that his casting might still be announced, since he and Levy are practically constant collaborators. For now, Levy is in talks with Gosling, and we’ll see what comes of it.

We don’t know anything significant yet about Levy’s Star Wars film. Last year, the director stated in connection with Deadpool and The Wolverine that the film will tell a standalone story that doesn’t connect to the Skywalker saga, meaning it won’t be tied to the previous films. The reason is simple: Levy wants to create something new and original within the Star Wars universe and doesn’t want to link it to existing stories or rehash them.

If all goes well, a Star Wars film will hit theaters next year, alongside The Mandalorian and Grogu. Additionally, a new trilogy is in development, James Mangold’s First Jedi film is on the way (the creator recently spoke about it), and we shouldn’t forget the New Jedi Order project bringing Rey back! So, a Star Wars renaissance might be coming soon.

[IN SHORT] We now know when Sonic 4 will hit theaters, and surprisingly, it won’t be during the holiday season, despite the success of the third film.
