Sony Pictures has released the official English trailer for Ramayana, offering international audiences a new look at Nitesh Tiwari’s enormous cinematic adaptation of one of India’s most enduring epics.
Ranbir Kapoor stars as Rama, with Sai Pallavi portraying Sita and Yash taking on the formidable role of Ravana.
The newly released English version is more than a subtitled edition of the original trailer. The film’s international campaign has been developed to make the story accessible to audiences far beyond India, presenting its characters and mythology through an English-language version while retaining the scale and performances of the original production.
At the centre of the story is Rama, the prince of Ayodhya whose journey becomes one of duty, sacrifice and the struggle between righteousness and evil.
His relationship with Sita forms the emotional heart of the story, while Ravana emerges as the powerful adversary whose actions ultimately set the stage for an enormous conflict.
The trailer moves between intimate moments and increasingly spectacular imagery: royal palaces, forests, vast armies, supernatural forces and battlefields filled with warriors preparing for a confrontation that will determine the fate of kingdoms.
Ranbir Kapoor’s Rama is presented with restraint and calm authority, while Sai Pallavi brings warmth and strength to Sita. Yash provides the trailer’s most imposing counterweight as Ravana, a ruler whose power and ambition place him directly against Rama.
The film also features Sunny Deol as Hanuman, one of Rama’s most important allies, and Ravi Dubey as Lakshmana.
Director Nitesh Tiwari is approaching the ancient story as a two-part cinematic epic rather than attempting to compress its enormous mythology into a single film.
The production has also assembled an unusually ambitious international creative team.
A. R. Rahman and Hans Zimmer have collaborated on the film’s music, bringing together two composers whose careers have shaped Indian and international cinema respectively.
The film has been designed for IMAX, with its enormous landscapes, armies and mythological imagery intended to be experienced on the largest possible theatrical canvas.
The English trailer also reinforces the producers’ intention to position Ramayana as a global event rather than a release aimed exclusively at the traditional Indian market.
Sony Pictures is handling the film’s international distribution, giving the adaptation access to cinemas and audiences around the world.
While the spectacle is considerable, the trailer repeatedly returns to the timeless ideas at the centre of the story: loyalty, honour, love, sacrifice and the battle between light and darkness.
For audiences unfamiliar with the source material, the English campaign provides an entry point into the characters and mythology. For those who have grown up with the Ramayana, it offers a new cinematic interpretation of a story that has been retold for generations.
Ramayana arrives in cinemas worldwide on November 6, 2026.
