A new special look at Street Fighter has brought two of the franchise’s most recognisable fighters into the ring, with Jason Momoa’s Blanka facing Andrew Koji’s Ryu in an explosive underground battle.
The footage begins with Blanka being dragged into a crowded fighting arena, restrained by chains as spectators gather around the cage. Ryu initially appears reluctant to engage, but Blanka has no intention of allowing him to walk away without a fight.
What follows is a chaotic demonstration of both characters’ abilities. Blanka launches himself across the arena with animalistic speed, using his strength, claws and signature electrical powers against his opponent. Ryu responds with disciplined martial arts and a powerful energy attack capable of stopping Blanka’s charge.
Momoa is almost unrecognisable beneath green prosthetics, sharp teeth and wild orange-and-black hair. The transformation leans heavily into the exaggerated visual style of the games, presenting Blanka as a physically intimidating creature rather than attempting to place the character inside a more grounded world.
Andrew Koji’s Ryu provides a deliberate contrast. Calm, focused and dressed in the fighter’s familiar white gi and red headband, he approaches the confrontation with discipline while Blanka relies on aggression and unpredictability.
The scene also provides another glimpse of David Dastmalchian as M. Bison, who watches the violence unfold from outside the cage. His presence suggests that the confrontation forms part of the larger World Warrior Tournament at the centre of the film.
Set in 1993, Street Fighter follows estranged fighters Ryu and Ken Masters as they are recruited by Chun-Li to enter the tournament. What initially appears to be an opportunity to test their abilities soon reveals a deeper conspiracy, forcing the former friends to confront powerful enemies and unresolved parts of their shared past.
Andrew Koji stars as Ryu, with Noah Centineo playing Ken Masters and Callina Liang appearing as Chun-Li. The extensive ensemble also includes Jason Momoa as Blanka, David Dastmalchian as M. Bison, Cody Rhodes as Guile, Roman Reigns as Akuma and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson as Balrog.
Vidyut Jammwal plays Dhalsim, Mel Jarnson appears as Cammy, Orville Peck portrays Vega and Olivier Richters takes on the role of Zangief. Eric André and Andrew Schulz are also among the cast.
The film is directed by Kitao Sakurai and produced by Legendary Pictures in partnership with Capcom. Rather than attempting to remove the franchise’s colourful characters and exaggerated powers, the footage suggests that the new adaptation will embrace the distinctive style of the games.
The Blanka and Ryu confrontation offers one of the clearest demonstrations yet of that approach, combining martial arts, energy attacks and deliberately over-the-top character designs inside a live-action tournament setting.
Street Fighter arrives in cinemas and IMAX on October 16, 2026.
