Netflix has released the official teaser for The East Palace, a Korean dark fantasy series that blends palace intrigue, supernatural horror and historical mystery.
The series follows Gu-cheon, played by Nam Joo-hyuk, a man who can move between the world of the living and the realm of the dead. He is no ordinary warrior: Gu-cheon is a ghost-slayer, capable of confronting spirits directly when ordinary people have no chance of surviving what waits beyond the veil.
Roh Yoon-seo stars as Saeng-gang, a court lady with her own terrifying gift. She can hear the voices of the dead, which makes her both valuable and vulnerable inside a royal world already full of secrets. When the king summons Gu-cheon and Saeng-gang to investigate the East Palace, they are drawn into a mystery where power, ghosts and buried history are all tangled together.
The teaser sets a striking tone. At first glance, The East Palace has the visual elegance of a historical palace drama: formal robes, royal corridors, candlelit rooms and the weight of court hierarchy. But the supernatural elements quickly twist that world into something much darker. This is not simply a political drama with ghosts on the edges. The palace itself seems infected by something old, violent and deeply unresolved.
Cho Seung-woo also stars, adding further weight to a cast already built around strong dramatic tension. The combination of royal conspiracy and horror gives the series a strong hook: the dead are not just haunting the palace for atmosphere. They appear to be part of the kingdom’s hidden truth.
For fans of Korean fantasy dramas, The East Palace looks like one of Netflix’s most intriguing genre releases of the summer. It has the richness of a period piece, the dread of a ghost story and the mystery structure of a cursed-palace thriller — basically a very stylish reminder that royal real estate is never worth it if the walls are screaming.
The East Palace premieres on Netflix on July 17, 2026.
