Netflix has released the official trailer for The Last House, a new sci-fi thriller from director Louis Leterrier, starring Greta Lee and Wagner Moura.
The setup is brutally simple: a family of four suddenly finds itself sealed inside its own home. The doors will not open. The windows cannot be broken. No one can explain what is keeping them trapped, and the outside world becomes unreachable almost instantly.
That premise turns the family home — normally the safest place in the world — into a hostile environment. As resources begin to disappear and the days stretch into something much longer, the family has to survive not only the physical limits of confinement, but also the psychological pressure of living together inside a mystery with no visible solution.
Greta Lee and Wagner Moura play the parents at the centre of the story, trying to protect their children while dealing with the impossible situation closing around them. The trailer suggests a film that is less about jump scares and more about dread: dwindling supplies, rising panic, domestic tension and the terrifying question of whether the house is protecting them, punishing them or simply holding them for something worse.
Directed by Leterrier from a script by Matthew Robinson, The Last House appears to blend survival thriller, sci-fi mystery and contained horror. The concept feels almost theatrical in its focus — one family, one location, one impossible rule — but the trailer hints at a much larger threat behind the walls.
That is what makes the film intriguing. Being trapped in a house is frightening enough. Being trapped in a house while the world outside seems to be changing without you? That is a properly nasty little nightmare. The story seems ready to test how long comfort can survive before it turns into suspicion, fear and desperation.
For fans of tense sci-fi thrillers, The Last House looks like one of Netflix’s stronger high-concept releases of the summer. It has a clean hook, a strong cast and the kind of “what would you do?” premise that should make viewers immediately start checking their own front doors, because why not add a little paranoia to the evening.
The Last House premieres on Netflix on August 7, 2026.
