Independent Film Company has released the official trailer for The Stunt Driver, a fact-based comedy-drama starring Jay Baruchel as Canadian daredevil Ken Carter, a man whose most ambitious dream was every bit as dangerous as it was spectacular.
Set during the 1970s, the film follows Carter as he prepares to launch a rocket-powered car over the mile-wide St. Lawrence Seaway, travelling from Canada towards the United States. The enormous stunt promises fame, fortune and the chance to secure his place in history — assuming he can survive it.
The trailer presents Carter as an obsessive underdog who refuses to abandon his impossible goal, even as technical problems, financial pressure and growing public scepticism threaten to derail the entire operation. His greatest obstacles, however, may be his own personal demons and the rival daredevil standing between him and the recognition he desperately craves.
Jay Baruchel leads the cast alongside Ben Foster, Ed Helms, Dan Bakkedahl and Laurence Leboeuf. The film is written and directed by Michael Dowse, whose previous work includes Goon, Stuber and The F Word.
Balancing outrageous comedy with a surprisingly emotional character study, The Stunt Driver explores the determination required to pursue a dream that almost everyone else considers ridiculous. Carter may be risking his career, his relationships and his life, but being forgotten appears to frighten him even more than the stunt itself.
Inspired by an extraordinary true story, the film looks set to deliver a distinctly Canadian tale of ambition, self-destruction and the relentless pursuit of immortality.
The Stunt Driver arrives in US cinemas on September 25, 2026.
