Universal Pictures has released the official trailer for Other Mommy, a deeply unsettling supernatural horror starring Jessica Chastain in a chilling dual role.
The story follows Bela, a young girl who has formed a mysterious relationship with an entity living inside her family’s home. She calls the creature “Other Mommy” — an increasingly threatening presence that looks almost exactly like her real mother.
The trailer opens with what initially appears to be an ordinary domestic scene, as Bela speaks with her mother in the kitchen. That illusion quickly collapses when her father enters the room and discovers that the woman sitting with his daughter is not who she appears to be. Hidden beneath the table with her limbs twisted into an unnatural position, Other Mommy offers an unforgettable first glimpse of the nightmare waiting inside the house.
Jessica Chastain stars as both Bela’s mother and the supernatural figure copying her appearance. Arabella Olivia Clark plays Bela, while Jay Duplass portrays her father, known as Daddo. The supporting cast includes Dichen Lachman, Arian Moayed and Karen Allen.
The film is directed by Rob Savage, whose previous horror credits include Host and The Boogeyman. Nathan Elston wrote the screenplay, adapting Josh Malerman’s bestselling novel Incidents Around the House. Malerman is also the author of Bird Box, which was previously transformed into the successful Netflix thriller starring Sandra Bullock.
Produced by James Wan through Blumhouse Atomic Monster, Other Mommy appears to combine supernatural terror with a deeply personal family story. Bela does not initially see the entity as a monster, making her connection with Other Mommy especially dangerous. As the creature becomes more deeply involved in the family’s lives, the distinction between the real mother and the thing wearing her face begins to disappear.
With its distorted body horror, claustrophobic domestic setting and unsettling exploration of childhood fear, the trailer suggests that Other Mommy could become one of the year’s most memorable supernatural horror releases.
Other Mommy arrives exclusively in cinemas on October 9, 2026.
