Wild Horse Nine: Sam Rockwell and John Malkovich Head to Easter Island

A tropical paradise, two CIA agents and a mission that threatens to unravel spectacularly. Searchlight Pictures has shared a promotional video titled Enjoy for Wild Horse Nine, the latest dark comedy from Oscar-winning filmmaker Martin McDonagh.

Set shortly before the 1973 Chilean coup, the film follows CIA operatives Chris (John Malkovich) and Lee (Sam Rockwell), who are sent from Santiago to the remote Easter Island by their bureau chief, MJ (Steve Buscemi).

Surrounded by the island's famous stone statues, the longtime partners find themselves confronting dark secrets, troubled histories and political conspiracies.

Their already complicated assignment becomes increasingly unpredictable when Chris develops an unexpected connection with two rebellious students, played by Mariana di Girolamo and Ailín Salas.

The ensemble also features Parker Posey and Tom Waits, bringing together an impressive collection of performers for McDonagh's signature blend of sharp dialogue, unsettling humour and morally complicated characters.

The film marks another collaboration between McDonagh and Rockwell, following Seven Psychopaths and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. It is also the director's first feature since the acclaimed The Banshees of Inisherin.

Following its appearance at the 2026 Venice International Film Festival, Wild Horse Nine is heading towards its theatrical release.

Blending historical tension, political intrigue and dark comedy, the film promises an unusual journey into a seemingly peaceful location where nothing is quite as simple as it appears.

Wild Horse Nine arrives in US cinemas on November 6, 2026.
