DC has released the Batman: Bad Seeds experience trailer, previewing a major Gotham City comic book event built around one very long, very bad night.
This is not a new Batman movie or TV series. Batman: Bad Seeds is a Gotham-wide comics crossover, and the trailer is designed to pull readers into the atmosphere of the event: one city, no escape, and Poison Ivy turning Gotham into something ancient, hostile and almost unrecognisable.
The premise is deliciously grim. As the sun sets on Gotham, something buried beneath the city begins to wake. Poison Ivy unleashes a desperate act of eco-terror, transforming streets, buildings and neighbourhoods into a dangerous landscape of prehistoric plant life. Gotham does not simply become overgrown. It mutates.
That gives Bad Seeds a very different flavour from a standard Batman crossover. This is not only about criminals taking over the city or Batman facing another masked mastermind. It is about Gotham itself becoming the threat. Buildings are swallowed by vines, carnivorous flora spreads through the streets, and civilians are trapped in a city that is actively turning against them.
Poison Ivy sits at the centre of that crisis, but she is not the only danger. DC’s setup also places Vandal Savage in a major position of power as Gotham’s police commissioner, with a private paramilitary force hunting the Bat-Family while the city collapses around them. So yes, Gotham is having a normal one. Completely fine. Nothing to see here except militarised policing, plant apocalypse and probably the worst morning commute in comics history.
The event is led by Matt Fraction and G. Willow Wilson, with chapters spreading across the wider Batman line, including Batman, Poison Ivy, Detective Comics, Batgirl, Batwoman, Catwoman, Nightwing and Harley Quinn. That structure makes sense for a story this large: if the whole city is changing block by block, every corner of Gotham needs to show what survival looks like.
For fans of Batman comics, Bad Seeds looks like one of DC’s more ambitious Gotham events of 2026. It combines superhero crisis, eco-horror, political collapse and street-level survival into one sprawling crossover — the kind of story where Batman’s usual control over the city may not be enough.
The Batman: Bad Seeds event begins on August 26, 2026, with a prelude in Poison Ivy #47 and the launch issue Batman: Bad Seeds – Sunset #1, before continuing across ten weeks of Gotham titles.
