Netflix has released the official trailer for Mourinho, a three-part documentary series examining the remarkable career, controversial reputation and enduring influence of José Mourinho.
Filmed over two years with exclusive access to the Portuguese manager, the series looks beyond the trophies and touchline theatrics to explore the personality behind one of football’s most recognisable figures.
Mourinho’s rise changed the course of modern football management. After leading FC Porto to an extraordinary UEFA Champions League victory in 2004, he went on to manage some of the world’s biggest clubs, including Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid. Along the way, he won league titles in four countries and lifted the Champions League twice.
The trailer revisits the victories that established Mourinho as an elite manager, but it also confronts the contradictions that have followed him throughout his career. His confidence inspired players and supporters, while his confrontational style created fierce rivalries, unforgettable press conferences and relationships that often became as dramatic as the matches themselves.
Mourinho provides his own perspective on the defining moments of his journey, while former players, colleagues and rivals offer candid accounts of working with — and competing against — the man who famously introduced himself to English football as “The Special One.”
The documentary features interviews with Sir Alex Ferguson, John Terry, Didier Drogba, Frank Lampard, Petr Čech, Iker Casillas, Marcelo, Zlatan Ibrahimović, Samuel Eto’o, Javier Zanetti, Luís Figo, Eden Hazard, Marco Materazzi and several other major figures from Mourinho’s career.
Produced by two-time Academy Award winner John Battsek, whose previous credits include Netflix’s Beckham, the series is directed by BAFTA- and Emmy-nominated filmmaker Joe Pearlman.
Rather than presenting a straightforward celebration, Mourinho promises a more complicated portrait of a manager who transformed expectations surrounding the role, repeatedly divided opinion and remained impossible for the football world to ignore.
All three episodes of Mourinho premiere globally on Netflix on August 11, 2026.
