Focus Features has released the “Nice Date” official clip from Obsession, Curry Barker’s upcoming horror film about desire, fantasy and the terrifying cost of getting exactly what you asked for.
The film follows Bear, a hopeless romantic who uses the mysterious “One Wish Willow” to win the heart of his crush. At first, that sounds almost like the setup for a strange dark comedy: one lonely guy, one impossible wish, and one chance to make his dream relationship happen. But Obsession quickly twists that idea into something far more sinister.
The “Nice Date” clip leans into that uncomfortable space between romance and dread. What should be a sweet, ordinary date carries a strange tension underneath, as if the characters are already trapped inside something that has gone wrong. That is exactly where the film seems to find its hook: not in a monster hiding in the dark, but in affection becoming unnatural, controlling and frightening.
Written and directed by Curry Barker, Obsession arrives with a cast led by Michael Johnston and Inde Navarrette, alongside Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless and Andy Richter. The premise plays with a familiar warning — be careful what you wish for — but gives it a horror-romance edge, turning obsession itself into the threat.
For genre fans, this could be one of the more interesting horror releases of the season. The clip suggests a movie that is less interested in cheap jump scares and more focused on emotional discomfort, toxic desire and the moment when fantasy stops feeling romantic and starts feeling dangerous.
Obsession opens in theaters on May 15, 2026.
